Acne is an embarrassing problem and getting it under control can be time consuming and frustrating. Body acne is no less frustrating and embarrassing. Although at most times body acne may be covered with clothing, there are times when this is just not desirable or practical, such as going to the beach with friends or in times of intimacy.

Treating body acne in the same way you treat regular facial acne or small areas of acne can get very expensive and often with less desirable results. Many skin care companies have resolved this issue with acne body wash products.

As with most popular products, choosing a good body wash can be a daunting task due to the sheer volume of products available on the market. And not all body washes work equally on each individual. Varying skin types will produce varying rates and degrees of success.

Some things to consider when looking for a body wash would be one with natural non-toxic ingredients, reputation of the company producing the product, effectiveness and cost. Research the product online and look for the success rate in other individuals. Talk to your doctor or a pharmacist and read the label before purchasing any acne body wash product. Look for some of these ingredients or attributes when choosing a product:

Salicylic Acid: This ingredient unclogs pores by cleaning out the oils and acts as an exfoliant. Look for a concentration between 0.5% to 2%. Salicylic acid is one of the most gentle acne treatment ingredients and is safe to use on sensitive skin, but it does have a tendency to dry the skin out, and so using a moisturizer may be a consideration.

Benzoyl Peroxide: A very common ingredient in acne fighting products, it fights the bacteria which causes acne. However it can be harsher on the skin and cause some inflammation and stinging, so if you have sensitive skin you may want to discuss this with your doctor or try a product first that does not contain Benzoyl Peroxide.

Should be oil free: Oil in any acne body wash will only contribute to the problem, which is pores clogged with oil. Also check the label to make sure there are no other products which can clog the pores.

There are many popular brand name companies which produce acne body wash products such as Neutrogena, Phisoderm and Murad. Read labels, research, ask questions and choose a product which you feel will be the best fit for you. And when cleansing with the acne wash you have chosen, read the instructions and follow them closely for best results. If you’re going to spend the time and the money, you want it to work with maximum results.
